My family is traveling to San Francisco for thanksgiving and I don't know what to do for thanksgiving dinner?
-
My family will want a turkey dinner. Are there any restaurants near Moscone center or union square that do thanksgiving meals either in the restaurant or to go?

Answer:
Well, you could always break down and cook - lol Here's a San Francisco guide to Thanksgiving... there's restaurants, caterers, take-out and grocery stores that sell the whole "heat and eat" meal: http://sanfrancisco.citysearch.com/roundup/38070/?ulink=home__contentslot1_2___roundup__1 This is a link for Open Table: http://www.opentable.com/start.aspx?m=4 and if you plug in the date of Thanksgiving, they'll list for you the restaurants that are accepting reservations. Wally's delivers: http://www.wallysfoodco.com/cart/thanksgiving_faq.php I'm spoiled. I generally cook, but if I had to choose a place in SF for Thanksgiving dinner, I'd go to Moose's: http://www.mooses.com/event-thanksgiving2005.shtml They're not cheap, but they're lovely and have a nice wine pairing with the meal :) For something really different, do a Hornblower Cruise: http://www.hornblowerholidays.com/San-Francisco/san-francisco-thanksgiving.asp Seriously... consider asking your mother to help you fix dinner... have some quality time in the kitchen together... it can be as complex or simple as you wish... there's nothing more complicated about cooking a turkey breast than baking a chicken. Mrs. Paul's makes frozen candied yams. Gravy comes in a jar. Idahoan makes really tasty instant mashed potatoes that you just mix into hot water. Anyone can cook a bag of frozen green beans and open a pouch of rolls... stuffing can now be purchased in the freezer section (Boston Market), the fridge section, or Stove Top style. By the way... Boston Market restaurant does a really good Thanksgiving meal too: Boston Market #1386 Potrero Avenue & 16th St 2300 16th Street., Suite 100 San Francisco, CA 94103 They have a good roasted turkey, vegetable stuffing, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, green beans, and they even have apple pies. They'd probably also be the least expensive option. You just pick it up and bring it home... obviously you have to order in advance :)

You may not have to 'do' anything! In my town, [ in central CA.] there was a Marie Callendar's, and other places, that provided a complete 'thanksgiving' dinner for $, you just placed an order [to go]. You may check around that area to see what is provided. [some grocery chains do it too.] Eating out/take-home is such a better idea; you are all together for a nicely cooked meal and later everyone can just kick back! Much luck to you and smart thinking!

Drive to Santa Rosa (about 50 miles North up the 101) and go to Willie Bird's restaurant. Organic free range turkey.

Check with the Concierge of your hotel. They should be able to direct you to restaurants in the area that will be open. I would make a reservation or place your order now so that you are covered. You don't want to get stuck on the holiday. Another thought is to try something different and eat turkey when you get back home. We did that one year and it was like celebrating twice! Have a great trip!

Look on Yahoo Maps and click on restaurants. Also look in Yellow pages.

Try the house of prime rib, it is not too far from Union Square and they usually have a Thanksgiving plate. http://houseofprimerib.ypguides.net/
