How to cook a Roast pig?

San Mateo, CA Where do 1 rent a Spit for a Whole pig roast?

  • I am thinking about having a Pig Roast at my home. I am looking to see if anyone knows where I can find a spit to rent to cook the pig?

  • Answer:

Try one of the party rental places. Other than that, you may need to go to the coast and rent one from a farmer. Put an ad on CraigsList you may find one that way. I did that once, it is an all day proposition. You have to start at like 7:00AM to be able to eat at 7:00 PM. Make sure you have the pig perfectly balanced on the spit or you will have problems. Keep a second BBQ filled with charcoal at the ready so you can have more coals ready when needed. But the reward is worth it. That pig is so tasty once it is cooked. Do you know where to get a pig? I would suggest one that is less than a year old, and right around 100 lbs. That is the perfect size for roasting. I live in Sacramento, but grew up in San Carlos, and did this once for a 4th of July party. I had to drive to Gridley for the pig, then up to Chico for the spit. But it was worth it. The best party I ever threw. Good Luck!!!

Good question... If you don't have any luck, you can try the Hawaiian style Imu Pit. No spit needed.
