Going to San Francisco on Monday for a week, will be staying at The York (sutter Street) are there any fun cool neat places to eat around that area. Not looking for any thing fancy, looking for fun places that locals eat at

I'm so sorry you got a bunch of tourists up above (except Jan, who obviously knows the town!) giving you all the worst tourist traps in town. Here are some decent places where the locals eat in that neighborhood: 1. Millenium - take advantage of being walking distance from one of the best vegetarian restaurants on the west coast. Food is so tasty, even die-hard carnivores love it. 2. Cafe Claude - hidden from the tourists down a little alley, it feels like a quick trip to Paris. 3. Bong Su - the newest of trendy French/Vietnamese fusion restaurants, it is an elegant adventure that is surprisingly affordable. 4. Belden Lane - not one restaurant, but a little alley that feels like you just stepped into Paris with half a dozen sidewalk cafes. The hot spot for outdoors cafe lunches on a warm day. 5. Perbacco - fairly new Italian place on California Street that has quickly become popular with the young professional crowd. 6. The Pied Piper Bar in the Palace Hotel. Dominated by a beautiful huge Maxfield Parish mural, this wonderful bit of San Francisco history also has great salads and sandwiches. A tad pricey, but it's a nice treat. 7. The Ferry Building. A bit of a hike from your hotel on Sutter, but worth it on a warm spring day. Just go to Mijita for tacos and agua fresca to go, and sit outside on a bench overlooking the waterfront. Beautiful. 8. Pearl's Deluxe Burgers at Post and Jones. Huge juicy premium burgers with thick old fashioned milkshakes... you won't have to eat again all day. Have fun!

You got some good answers from others. I would just add that Mario's Bohamian Cigar Store on the corner of Columbus and Union is a VERY traditional SF place to eat eggplant sandwiches or pizza and drink red wine. It is also a great people-watching place. You'll find lots of little cafes in North Beach (the Italian neighborhood) where locals eat. Just walk along Columbus Street. Also go to Le Tacqueria on Mission Street just up from 24th (BART Station) for the best tacos and burritos in San Francisco and try pupusas at any Salvadorean restaurant on Mission Street.

Ok. The best place to eat at, to me, is Bubba Gump in the Fisherman's Wharf! It's a shrimp place, u know? Yea, they have really good fod and drinks, and you don't have to have shrimp! Haha, well.. Bubba Gump! And there's also this place in the Fisherman's Wharf called "The Whale's Tail" and they're food is also really good! I LOVE their clam chowder and they have good pasta. So, the Whale's Tail and Bubba Gump!

Ok, not sure how close you will be to it, but...the best place for something unique is called "The Stinking Rose". It is a garlic resaurant, italian really. Yummmmmm-O ! It is in the North Beach area of Columbus , not far away I bet. Definately worth the trip !

If you're a fan of seafood, definitiely check out Fisherman's Wharf... there are lots of good places there. Also, I highly recommend Ghirardelli for an out-of-this-world hot fudge sundae.
