Places in New York City To Go For A Good Time?
-
I've lived in NYC all my life. And I don't know where I guy like me would fit in? I'm 43 years old and I'm tired of staying home all the time, but I just don't know where to go in NYC? I don't drink or smoke or dance. If I did shake my 48 inch gut on the dance floor you can bet it would be the number one most viewed clip on YouTube. So I'm not the one to shake my booty on the floor with the kids. I've heard of places like "the bowery ballroom" "the mercury lounge" and "filmore at Irving plaza" but I just don't know if they're for me. I would love to see a concert if one of the band I like played at any one of theses places. So where do old guys like me who don't drink or smoke or dance go for a good time in New York city? I love music "foo fighters" "coldplay" "echo & the bunnymen" "squarepusher" all forms of indie espically electronica and trance and dream pop like "lush" and the "Cocteau twins" going to a movie theatre is fine but I wouldn't want to do it all the time. I don't drink so I can't go to a bar? Any suggestions? And no it's not funny or hip to say "the cemetery"

i drink, but occasionally want to do things other than go to bars, so i've been asking myself the same question. your age/weight should not be a factor in meeting cool/decent people in the city. i was thinking of taking a class at ice (institute of culinary education). it looks pretty good. the zoo is great this time of year. bowling (cheesy, but fun). i love going to barnes & noble on 66th. it's open till 12 am. it's nice to walk there too because there are a bunch of nice stores in the neighborhood. little cafe's around the west 70's..and people who keep to themselves and are of all ages (unlike the lower eastside which is mostly 20's and 30's..i was thinking yoga, but i'm not gonna lie, yoga kinda sucks to me. it's kinda boring, but maybe you'll like it. and a lot of people who do yoga don't drink or smoke. yelp is good for finding music venues (you mentioned music)..why not look in the music section of the village voice? that's probably the best for that. as far as electronic music and stuff like that, that's mostly going to be around houston st. or in williamsburg/bushwick. sometimes it's going to be house parties, sometimes concert-type shows..it all depends. i would say look up some music events on facebook. also, there's a drum circle that sounds really cool that's in prospect park on sundays (i think). i've heard it's really good. anyway, hope that helps. good luck!
