How good is Magnolia Bakery?

  • I recently ordered a cake (vanilla with chocolate frosting) and two cupcakes (one vanilla w/ chocolate; one chocolate w/ vanilla) to pick up on Saturday as a surprise for my best friend's sixteenth birthday. The price was reasonable (perhaps even cheap; only $40); however, I've heard very mixed reviews about this place. I was wondering if it's as good/bad as people say it is. I'll be picking up the cake from the location in Rockefeller Center.

In my opinion, Magnolia Bakery is extremely overrated because of Sex and the City. The cupcakes are OKAY but I've heard from some friends that the cakes and other pastries are pretty good, so I'm sure you will like it. It just isn't as great as most people think it will be.

I find their cupcakes to be dry and frosting too rich...Crumbs or Chicolicious have great cupcakes & desserts.

I have ordered from there and its very tastey but I perfer Sprinkles or Crumbs! Hope that helps
