What are the best places to go for dinner at Christmas time in new york city?
-
I am traveling with my family to New York City around Christmas and new years time. I'm looking for the best places to go for dinner/lunch on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day and also other places for that time of year. I would like some suggestions, a mixture of expensive to mid-price range would be good.

My husband and I will also be spending Christmas in NYC also. I did a search for restaurants on www.opentable.com. That is probably the best place to look if you want to know the approximate cost, location, ratings, cuisine and if a restaurant will be open and have available reservations on a particular day. Restaurants are really a personal choice and depends upon what you and your family like to eat, what you are willing to spend, dressy vs. casual, etc. There are endless possibilities in NYC. We chose to have Christmas lunch because we have tickets for a Broadway show in the evening and did not want to feel rushed through the meal. We chose Uncle Jack's steakhouse because we wanted a "special" and "traditional" meal, and the restaurant had excellent reviews. We also considered Christmas brunch since the Christmas holidays fall on the weekend but choices were limited this far in advance. If you like Italian, I would recommend Carmines or Tony's di Napoli. I have eaten at both and they both serve family-style and you get a lot of food for your money. In the Times Square area, I believe both will be open all day Christmas Eve and Day. We also enjoyed Les Halles (French steakhouse) Christmas Eve 2 years ago. For some restaurants, it is still too early to make reservations that far in advance. It would be a good idea to check www.opentable.com now and maybe a month in advance.

i think Tavern on the Green closed already so you can't go there anymore. Any of these restaurants from this restaruant group are good. http://www.patinagroup.com/restaurants.php rock center cafe you will get a view of the rink and the tree from the bottom. This is more family oriented place. The sea grill is on the opposite side but more expensive.

You should have asked last year, Tavern on the Green was perfect. It depends if it is a date or your bringing kids with you. The Palm is great if you like Steak and Lobster. Eating at Rockefeller Center and looking at the ice rink is a must.
