Where are some beautiful, scenic places in Southern California?

Where are some nice, romantic, scenic places in southern california, particularly in Orange County?

  • I want to take my girlfriend somewhere special and I've planned on a sushi picnic kind of deal with some music, provided by some friends, in the background. I just now need a venue. I'd personally prefer a nice view but I'm trying to stay away from a few places: Corona Del Mar (it would be packed around sunset), Signal Hill and Top of the World (already been there, done that). So now I'm in a dilemna and would greatly appreciate some advice of where I can take my girlfriend on a nice, romantic, scenic date. If you would please leave the place and some possible directions, that would be super.

    My first thought was the park on the cliffs north of main beach in Laguna, but that might be crowded. Salt Creek Beach in Laguna Niguel has a great grass park overlooking the Ocean that's not so crowded... its big enough. Clean and nice. Plenty of parking. I have what I believe is one of the most scenic places but I don't know about the picnic. There is some grassy areas out back that probably would work though. They do have a nice restaurant on premises. It's not in Orange county though. it's the Getty Museum (art) 405 North past I-10 at Getty drive. Admission is free but parking is $8. You have got to see the view to believe especially at sunset. It's about a 270 degree view of just about everything west past Malibu, south to LAX, PV peninsula, Santa Catalina and east covering parts of Orange county. Good luck, hope she says yes.

Inspiration Point at Will Rogers State Park is quite beautiful. There are also some really splendid views if you walk maybe ten minutes up the trails in Coldwater Canyon. It's a restaurant so I suppose that you won't be able to do your picnic thing, but The Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga Canyon is *very* beautiful and serene! Extremely romantic... I absolutely love it there and have taken a few GF's. Check it out. All of these are in the Santa Monica Mountains so it's a bit north of Orange County but give them a thought.
