Where is a good place to go to dinner in Hollywood?

Saddleranch for dinner only...Hollywood or will Universal suffice?

  • I want to take my husband out for a good steak and I want fried chicken. I hear the Saddleranch has both. We are "old" and we would only go for dinner, and be gone by 7. We live closer to Universal City, but I am willing to drive to Hollywood. I know this place is also a club/bar for partying. I want to consider for an early dinner: 1) the noise factor. Is one or the other noisier in the early dinner hours? 2) the smell factor: does one or the other have a "after bar" odor to the dining room. Thanks to all for your HONEST answers.

If you have to go to Saddle Ranch, you should go to the one in Universal City. Ever thought about trying Claim Jumpers? They have steak and fried chicken. I think you would enjoy the environment there a little more. Check out their locations and menu... http://www.claimjumper.com/hypertext/locations_ca.htm

I would say Universal if you are looking to avoid the noise since it is more family/non partier friendly. I have gone around 7 and haven't had much of an issue with noise/smell of the bar. The Hollywood location is just dirty to me. Way too many drunken sorority girls have lost their dinner on that floor after riding the bull...

Been to both.......Hollywood for sure. You can eat outside and people watch and the bar crowed doesn't get there until 10ish anyways. The Comedy Store is right next door and you can always catch a comedy club act afterwards. It makes it for a fun night :) Does it have to be Saddleranch? There are other places that serve steak and fried chicken???? Good Luck!

I've been to both and think both are fine. They both have large indoor and outdoor seating areas. Here's something to consider though. Call ahead or go on their website because at least at the Sunset location, certain nights a week they have karaoke, or bull riding contests, etc. so those might be busier (which translates to noisier and smellier!) Also, keep in mind that EVERY DAY they offer, until 3pm "bottomless" mimosas and bloody marys. In my experience, you find young Hollywood type, trendy cool kids at the Sunset location, and more touristy type people of all ages at Universal. Also, their portions are HUGE.... I recommend the chicken fried steak. :-) Have fun!

Ive been to the Universal one right after work (around 6pm) on a week night and it was fine. Not too crowded & not too noisy. We had a few drinks, dinner & did some people watching, which is good, plentyfull & fun at Universal.
