Fun, cheap places to go in Philly?

Where are some fun, cheap, or free places to go to for a day trip in los angeles, ca?

  Go to Santa Monica Pier and beach. Then go to Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade. It is a long street of funky shops and sidewalk cafes. They have street entertainers. Singers, dancers, acrobats, "performance artists", mimes, clowns, belly dancing, just about anything you can imagine. It's always fun, lively, hip day or night. Great people watching, beach people, funky hippy types, punks, ma and pa from the Midwest, just about all kinds of people. One of my favorite stores on that street is Shiva Imports with all it's cool Indian Hindu stuff. It's cheap because you can spend a few hours there just window shopping and people watching and not have to spend any money (other than to pay to park). Another is Venice Beach. Same kind of vibe as Santa Monica with lots of street performers and wacky people watching. But Venice Beach doesn't have all the nice shops and cafes that Third Street Promenade has. But it's cheap because you can spend hours walking around just having a fun time. Advice: Go early in the day. These places get crowded and parking is hard to find. Especially in the summer.
