What happened to my favorite restaurant, El Jarrito Mexican Restaurant in Los Angeles?

  • I moved to North Carolina in April. ( I didn't get a chance to eat at my most favorite restaurant before we moved.) We moved back and I go to my favorite restaurant, El Jarrito Mexican Restaurant in Los Angeles on Olympic Blvd. between Vermont and Normandie. It is now a Korean food joint. This restaurant had been there since the 1950s...the best authentic Mexican food in the U.S.!!! (The owners were my exes grandparents, but their son, Bobby was managing the restaurant for them for a long time now.) Does anyone know what happened to it? Did it move? Where? Or is it shut down forever??? If so, why??? And, if you do know, when did it close? I'm so sad!!!

  • Answer:

It closed for good. It closed a few months ago and the Korean place JUST opened less than a month ago. If you want some authentic Mexican, you might was to go to Olvera Street in Downtown.

I've been eating there since 1963! I agree this was one of the best. Does anyone know whether there are any plans to re-open elsewhere?

It is so sad and I think it is shut down forever. It was the only true authentic Mexican restaurant in LA. I fear that the Koreans are taking over that part of town with somewhat of a vengeance.
