Just remember, your idea of nice and romantic may be totally different than his. I was going to take my man out to a very expensive nice restaurant in our area. When I suggested it and told him that it was ultimately up to him, he said he would just LOVE to go to the local authentic mexican restaurant. Who knew? Cheap, closer, and exactly what he wanted.

You should let us know what city you're in or can go to, because most chain restaurants aren't good enough. In my area, we have a nice brewery and some steakhouses that are popular in the downtown area. Also, a nice italian restaurant is always good. If you want to avoid garlic breath, though, maybe a chic sushi place.

Try Cafe Sevilla in Long Beach. You should be able to stay well within budget here, since Tapas are the big thing at this establishment. I also highly recommend Bono's, also in Long Beach. The food is always consistently great here, and the place is quiet enough to hold a conversation. While some of their dishes can be quite expensive... Bono's is known for their pasta more than anything, and those items and perhaps a shared appetizer, should keep you in budget. You might consider taking him out to a birthday lunch if you're both available that day. Lunches tend to be lower in price for the exact same meal at most restaurants.
