• In San Diego there's a BBQ joint near Seaport Village called Kansas City BBQ. It's the best BBQ place I've ever eaten and have to go there every time I'm in town. I used to live just down the street from this place some years back. About a year ago or so it burned down. Does anyone from the San Diego area know if it's back in business? I'm planning on going to SD soon and would love to get my fill of their great food. BTW, it's also the place where they filmed the piano scene in the movie Top Gun. It had an ambiance all it's own and will never be the same after so much was lost but I'm sure the food will be just as yummy as ever. So if you know if they're open for business please let me know.

Kansas City Barbeque, which was featured in the 1986 movie "Top Gun," opened for business Saturday morning for the first time since the fire struck on June 26. A blaze in the restaurant's fire pit got out of control and took about 20 minutes for firefighters to extinguish, but no one was hurt. The flames did, however, ravage the restaurant's collection of 330 Navy ship caps, 450 license plates, Kansas memorabilia, celebrity photographs and America's Cup posters, which owners Martin and Cindy Blair collected over 25 years. It was estimated the fire caused $400,000 damage to the eatery at 610 W. Market St. Manager Mark McCullough said they decided to open with "no big signs, no gala or anything" so they could work out some kinks, introduce a new menu and finish construction. Some sort of celebration might take place next weekend, McCullough said. The restaurant was able to serve it's traditional annual turkey buffet to the military on Thursday, he said.
