How do I rip DVDs with a laptop?

How to rip files from a protected CD?

  • Hey all, First off, I want to say that I'm not planning on doing anything illegal. I bought a DVD and I want to transfer it to my laptop so that I can watch it on the plane during my trip without having to cart around the DVD cases and all that. I'm not gonna be making illegal copies and all that jazz. But anyway... This DVD is protected, it's from HBO, and I don't know how to rip it to my computer as a file. I've heard that some rippers can damage a DVD, and I want to do a straight to DVD rip. It has episodes on it, and I either want the straight copy with the menu, or just copies of the episodes. What can I download in order to get these protected eps? Also, if anyone knows of a burner that will take the protection off DVDs and maybe change regions, I would appreciate that. Another DVD I want on my laptop is from Britain and is region 2 and I want to change that.
