Easier option is an rca to usb converter like this: http://www.kaiserbaas.com/video_to_dvd_maker.html They come with all the cables and software you need and they're pretty cheap (~$70AU) I sold heaps of these at my last job and I don't think I ever saw one returned so they must work pretty well.

3 options, and all of them mean money. Option 1: Buy a DVD recorder and hook up a VHS player to the input. Option 2: Buy a capture card and digitize your VHS material onto you computer. Also, the DVD burning software that comes with your computer is good only for buring Data DVDs, like the old floppy disks used to be. For burning a Video DVD, you need a special software program, and the reliable ones cost money. Option 3: Send your VHS out for transfer to DVD at a cost of around $10 - $20 per VHS. If any of the VHS are commercial tapes, they'll have basic copy protection embedded, and you'll need an extra $40 box to strip it off so the recorder or capture card will accept it. VHS transfer services won't even accept such tapes. Oops, I forgot, there IS an option 4: Have a friend with the necessary equipment do it, IF he'll do it for free. Otherwise, THAT one costs, too.
