Why are my VHS transfers so quiet?

Is there a machine you can buY that transfers VHS tapes to DVD?

  • I have a bunch of videos of my kids that I want to transfer onto DVD so nothing will ever happen to them. Where and how much$$ ? Thank you!!

  • Answer:

Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Fry's, all and more have DVD recorder/VCR units that can record in both directions, directly within the machine. Depending upon features, cost can range from $199 - $399. Caution, such machines are required by DMCA (law) to prevent the transfer of copyrighted material. You will need a filter to get around it (legal). One such device is called a Digitial Video Stabilizer and costs around $40. Available from Amazon.com and other reputable websites. You would take the VHS output through the DVS box and into the DVD recorder's inputs. Easy. After that, your option is to pay a video transfer company $40 per tape to do the transfer for you. After that, you can author your own DVD's by having a DVD burner in your computer, an analog video capture device, editing, authoring, and burning software. Buy the deck from Best Buy or Wal-Mart and pay the $199. It's easier in the long run. Me, I bought a Panasonic DVD recorder from Circuit City for $134, hooked up my old VHS to it and recorded one to the other.
