Can a 1amp fuse replace an 800mAmp fuse in a light fixture?
-
I'm trying to help a friend of mine replace a fuse in a kitchen light fixture in her home. The burned out fuse is a T800mA. I can't find any stores around here that stock 800 milliAmp fuses. Someone at one of the stores told me that for a light fixture I could just use a 1000 milliAmp (1 Amp) fuse instead. This makes some sense to me, because we're talking about power to light bulbs, not sensitive electronics. By the way, I'm in Germany, so we're talking about 240volt current in her home, and not 120volt like in the US. So, does anyone have a clue???

Answer:
The "T" means it is a "slow blow" or anti-surge fuse. Replacing it with a normal 1A one will probably work, but it is much more satisfactory to replace the blown fuse with the correct one. You can find anti-surge types much more easily on the internet than in the shops.

yes it should work dont know why it wont

You can, but then the wires might short on a load heavier than 800mah and create a fire

well in general i dont think u want to use a higher rated fuse. The fuse is suppose to blow at a certain amperage, which in yours is 800 ma but it wont set the fuse off till it hits 1000 ma by then u can do damage to the light. But with a light fixture, I cant imagine it would hurt, but I would not recommend it. It calls for a particular fuse for a reason, right?
