Why doesn't my DVD work on normal DVD players?

I've tried 5 different DVD-players to play written DVDs, but none work...?

  • I've burned a movie on 3 DVDs, a Memorex DVD+R DL, a Memorex DVD+R, and a Maxwell DVD-R. I've tested all three in 5 different DVD players, a Magnavox, a Panasonic, two Sonys, and a PS2. I'm not quite DVD-writing savvy, so if someone could explain what's important in producing a DVD for playback on a DVD player, advice on brands and types of blank DVDs, and their compatibility with players, that would be wonderful.

  • Answer:

The newer DVD players will play almost anything. But make sure you are closing or finalizing the DVD you burn.

Other answers

Use DVD-R blanks for maximum compatibility, especially if you're playing them on older DVD players.
