  • Answer:

VGA to Component cables DO NOT WORK in 99% of cases. You need a converter. Search in Amazon or wherever for "VGA to component" and you will come up with many options for under $40 in the USA.

Your computer must support component over VGA, so the first thing to do is set your computer to that mode. Few computers support that, so that cable is useless to you if they don't. If it does support it, it is as easy as plugging the VGA end into the computer, and the component end into the TV, and using a 3.5mm to RCA cable for audio. If if your computer has no component mode and TV no VGA input, then you need to get a converter box to convert VGA to what your TV can accept.

Plug the VGA (15 pin D shaped end) into the computer. Connect the RCA ends (red, green, blue) into their corresponding jacks on the TV. For sound, you will need to run a cable from your computer's audio out to the audio in that corresponds to the component inputs on the TV.
