How are analogue and digital signals similar/different?

Are analogue radio signals going to be switched off in UK?

  • If you don't know yourself do you know who I should be asking? I have heard contradictory information about whether analogue radio signals are going to be switched off. Analogue radios are still being sold, there is no sign of a digital converter for analogue radios, and I have heard that there is no need to switch them off.

  • Answer:

There are currently no plans to switch analogue radio signals off in the UK. If it does happen it's years away yet. So, unlike with digital TV which we'll have had to convert to by the end of 2012, there's no pressing need to go out and buy a digital radio - unless you want access to the extra digital radio stations of course.

The analog radio signals are due to be switched off in the UK by around 2010. This is due to the enormous and exponential growth of UK citizens purchasing digital radio's and the general advantages of digital technology as well as decrease in price. ie. around 2010 timeframe Hope this helps!

The digital radio signals in the US are compatible with analog radios. I think it's only the analogue television signals.that are going off the air. Medium wave and shortwave will stay the way they are.

Haven't heard anything so far. If it does happen it'll be years after the TV switch over

Salsoul

No. As they can't make any money by selling the bandwidth, the Government have no plans to turn off analogue signals.
