Will using a disco smoke machine set the fire alarms off?
-
I was planning on buying a smoke machine for when I dj a house party but I was worried that the smoke might set the fire alarms off. Do fire alarms detect any smoke or is it only smoke from fire that sets them off. Thanks.

Answer:
Residential smoke detectors, maybe, especially optical detectors.

It's not smoke, it's artificial fog..

No, its only water based vapour that is emmitted. However one evening, for a laugh me and my mate filled his flat with smoke! This smoke was very thick! And eventually set the alarms off! So a little bit of smoke is ok. Too much and it might go off!
Fog tends to hug the floor and the detectors are on the ceiling.
