What is a good digital cable descrambler?

Cable descrambler?

A friend of mine purchased a new cable box descrambler. He hooked it up and the stations are descrambled but they have flaws and clarity constantly changes.It's Tristar MX model. Does anybody have experience with this type of thing? Is they any way to fix this box?

If you can take it apart you may be able to adjust the signal a bit, I had one but the adjustment was on the outside of the box and i could just dial in the channel i wanted to watch
