Can you use the Xbox360 HDMI cable with other electronics?

I don't use the HDMI cable that came with my 360 for it, so I'm wondering if it will work for the new DVD player I just bought. I want to hook the player to my Olevia 32 inch using the Xbox360 HDMI cable. Will it work as a normal HDMI cable, or is it specifically for Xbox360?
