Is there a cable to hook my computer into my TV?

My dad ordered a vga to svid cable to hook up the computer tower to the TV and it won't work.?

  • It's plugged from the vga out to the "input 1" s-video 'in' in the TV, and when we turn on the tower we get absolutely no signal. It's a vista computer, and we have the TV on "input 1" mode. Any ideas, besides refunds or double checking?

    the cable only works with a small handful of computer graphic cards that are designed by the factory to send s-video out the VGA connector. this is not a "generic" device that works with any computer with a VGA monitor connector. if you have the lucky graphic card, then you activate the s-video out via a software toggle, otherwise the connector is VGA by default.

Yeah, you probably have go into the PC Display settings and should be a option for Multiple displays or Clone Display. Have the PC off when you plug the leads in, then turn the computer on go into the display settings and try that. Another way of doing it is get a standard monitor cable and check if your tv has a vga output on it and use that.

You have to set that VGA out to Composite/S-video mode, and to do that, you need a graphics card to support that. Otherwise the cable simply won't work, so you need to get a converter box.
