How can I record a VCR to a CD?

VCR signal upconversion?

  • Last night I tried to set up a VCR for a friend of mine... I failed. The problem is that we want to run it through her receiver before sending the signal to the TV. The receiver will pass the signal on composite, but when it upconverts to component video, it flashes between a grey screen and the picture... I'm of the opinion that she should ditch the VCR or just switch inputs when she wants to watch it... neither option is ideal for her. She'd like to be able to leave the TV on one input and use the receiver to switch between VCR, DVD, CD, etc... I believe that the problem is the vertical blanking signal - copy protection. I know that there are devices out there to disable this, and I know that this would be a legal application of those devices. Does anybody know where I can get one? Does anybody have any other suggestions? For the record, my intentions here do not involve anything illegal, or piracy. I do plenty of that, but never with a VCR - they suck.

  • Answer:

Hi Jeff H, If I understand your problem a Sima might work because it will remove the copy guard. A Sima T120 GoDVD will remove the copy guard and enhance the picture. You plug your source into it and plug it into the input of your receiver. Here is an example of one - http://www.heartlandamerica.com/browse/item.asp?PIN=54817& Another one that will work is the Digital Video Stabilizer. They work like a charm.
