Blue ray player question?

Question about blue ray disc and player?

  • I HAVE A PLAYSTATION 3 A DECENT RCA HOME THEATER... MY QUESTION IS SHOULD I CONTINUE BUYING REGULAR DVD'S OR BLUE RAY....IF I BUY A BLUE RAY DISC WILL IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE THAT MY TV AIN'T HD OR DO I ALSO NEED A HDTV? CAUSE SOMEONE TOLD ME HAVING A BLUE RAY DISC AND PLAYER IS USELESS WITHOUT A HDTV

  • Answer:

I'd say buy blu-ray movies strictly so that when you do upgrade to an HDTV, they will look that much better. The blu-ray's that you watch on your SDTV will look fine, however they won't look as good as they will in High Def. however, if you can't find the movie you want on blu-ray, your PS3 will upconvert your DVDs so they look better as well

As DVD has a lower resolution, eventually it will probably be phased out for films. Blu-Ray is at a minimum 5 x 'better' in image quality. If you watch Blu-Ray films on a standard definition (SD) set, you will not get the full benefit. The color range may be improved. If you watch on a proper HD set 1080 progressive scan, the DVD will look passable, but the Blu-Ray disc will give a MUCH more detailed result. Think of it as an investment for the future - you wnn't have to repurchase your collection.

I wouldn't say useless. It's like when we all converted from cassette to CD. That was linear to digital so it was a BIG change. Since standard DVD's are digital, I'd say they won't go away for some time. Besides, I think the biggest advantage of Blue Ray is all the interactive features that they include. If you can afford Blue Ray DVD's then get it. Because more than likely your going to get an HDTV sooner or later. But I wouldn't replace your collection of DVD's (like we did from cassette to CD's) with Blue Ray, unless it's a real favorite.
