Would a DVD-R work in a portable DVD player?

If I have a DC adapter cord for something that runs at 3V, and my portable DVD player runs at 2V, will it work

  • I am trying to find out if there is a replacement cord for my portable TV/DVD player that I can pick-up tommorrow on my way out of town. The hole where the DC cord goes into the back of the TV says DC 13 2V, I am assuming that means 2 Volts. But all of the universal adapters I am finding are either 1.5 or 3. Please advise.

    If you look closely I bet that you will see a decimal point for the DC 13.2V connector. If this is the case then you will just need a 12V cigarette lighter cord with the proper connector like the Radio Shack ones linked below. These are called 12V but a vehicle's charging system actually puts out around 13 - 14V when the engine is running. WK

That all depends on the hardware. If thereis a voltage regulator in the dvd player, then a 3V power supply will not be a problem. Most all portable devices have them. Just the really old ones don't. I'd say try it out. It should be just fine. The worst that can happen is that it just won't turn on. On the other hand, try Batteries Plus. They'll have what you're looking for.

It's not going to work. If you plug a 3v adapter to a 2v device you risk causing a fire. If you don't know, then don't do it. IGO sells portable DVD powere sources for a wide range of portable DVD players. Try them. Go to igo.com or head to your local Radio Shack.

try 1.5v first caused it may actually give 3v if measured in a voltmeter more safer than putting a higher voltage
