Best blue-ray player?

Will a prog scan dvd player with HD upconversion by HDMI produce the same quality as HD or blueray dvd player?

  • Basically if I play a HD DVD on a progessive scan dvd player with an HD upconversion, will the HDMI cable turn the video feed and audio feed into HD for my HDTV. I want the HD results, but don't want to spend the amount of money required for a HD/blueray DVD player.

  • Answer:

In addition to what the first person said, which is completely true, you can't play HD DVD's nor Blu Ray DVD's on a progressive scan dvd player or any other kind of regular dvd player. It's a whole different kind of disc. It's like asking if you can play dvd's on a cd player, it just ain't possible. Whole different kind of media disc.

Absolutely not... an HD upconversion is nothing more than blowing the standard NTSC picture up to the 1920x1080 resolution. You simply won't get the detail and quality because the data is not there. Give it some time. In about 2-3 years HDDVD or Blueray will be cheap enough for everyone.
