If I buy a combined VHS and DVD-R player can I transfer my old video tapes to DVD?

if they are bought, commercially available VHS tapes they may have macrovision copy protection on them. if they do you may not easily be able to copy them, you may have bought them but having the right to watch them may be different. I saw some years ago a video conditioner that would have the side effect of removing macrovisions corruptions of your tape. in theory you could do what you want but copy protection may stop you from watching your tapes how you want.

You feed the output red and white leads from the back of the player into the computer with a usb2.0 audio/video grabber, put in your video and then this converts it to a jpeg, and audio files in form of wave files (prob will need a driver cd - all and above available from GrabBeeX)

Highly unlikely, you will need a recordable dvd combined with VHS which I'm not sure they produce - or ever will. At present we are transfering out VHS tapes onto dvd using Pinnacle USB - not cheap, about £80, but it works and gives you loads of effects too, well worth the money.
