Insignia digital TV converter box?

Why is the audio quality so bad with my digital converter box?

  • I have a generic HD-ready TV (Brand: Advent). I have hooked up my digital Converter box (Insignia NS-DXA1). The problem I am having is that the audio quality sucks. There is a ton of white noise that makes it impossible to watch TV. If there isn't white noise, the audio signal is really weak. The picture is fine most of the time. I am using a rooftop antenna that normally gets decent reception. Any reason why this might be happening or ideas how it can be fixed?

  • Answer:

Since the TV broadcast is digital, it will not have white noise in it. So the noise is being added somewhere within the converter box, the TV, or in the cables in between. Are you using the RF (antenna/cable) connection between the TV and the converter box? You should be using the composite video and L/R audio connectors. There may also be a source of interference nearby (a motor, or other electric device). If so, route your cables away from the source.
