How do I make a RCA to VGA cable?

HELP ANSWER PLEASE!!! vga to rca component?

  • We have just ordered a vga (15 pin) to rca component (red, blue, green) cable, so we can watch movies on our laptop on our tv. Will this make the tv give out sound and video or just video. Thanks, Sarah x

I don't believe so. You'll need a separate audio cable as well. It would probably plug into the headphone jack on your laptop and then the audio-in jack on the television. Usually those cords are yellow on the adapters.

Sarah - These cables DO NOT WORK and are a huge ripoff. The only time they work is when your VGA output is specifically designed for component video output which is VERY RARE. See the fine print in this link for details: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&cs_id=1023503&p_id=2409&seq=1&format=2 You will need to return that cable when you find out it does not work - what you need is a VGA to component converter: http://www.amazon.com/Calrad-40-480-Component-Video-Converter/dp/B005UF858E/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1328896262&sr=1-4

VGA is a video-only format, so the adapter you have will not supply sound to the TV, picture only. You will need a second adapter to get the sound from the laptop's speaker jack to the RCA audio inputs (likely to be red and white) on the TV.
