What's the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R?

What's the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R?

  • It's because I needed to buy some blank DVDs, and I saw two packs. The first one was DVD-R, and the other one was DVD+R, and both had the same price. So which is better?

  • Answer:

The only difference between +R and -R is propriety. Two major companies made competing types of DVD formats, neither one is better than the other. Check the model and manufacturer your DVD drive and see what types of discs are compatible with your DVD drive. If your computer was ordered (bought from dell, hp, emachines, etc.), then just check your order form and it should tell you what DVDs you can use. Most new DVD writing drives can read and write to both DVD+R and DVD-R.
