How do I clean my Earphones?

How to clean Sony MDR-AS20J Sport earphones?

  • I received a pair of these headphones a while ago http://store.sony.com/p/active-headphones/en/p/MDRAS20J and they work great! However, I have noticed over time some wax buildup. With my previous headphones all i did was remove the cover with the holes where the sound comes, and used alcohol and cotton to thoroughly clean it. On this pair there seems to be no way to remove the cover and it is really frustrating me because even cleaning the surface with alcohol and/or trying to use a toothpick to remove the wax in the sound holes is proving almost fruitless. Does anyone own a pair of these headphones, or know how to disassemble them? I really like them, but the buildup is starting to have an effect on the sound quality. If you need additional information, ask away. I appreciate any help you have to offer! :)

  • Answer:

To remove ear wax from your ears you'd use peroxide or alcohol. Common sense would say to try the same, however the rubbber surround of the driver may get eaten up by the peroxide. Alcohol may do the trick, however if the percentage is too high is can over dry the rubber surround... 70 or maybe 60% solution alcohol from wally world... NOT the 90% stuff...
