If I have a digital tv will I still need my antenna?

I need to set up antenna only on my tv, it is set to antenna/air but still no luck.?

  • My roommate left for a few months bc he is out of the country and therefore cancelled our cable. I am fine with just having the antenna but can't seem to get it working. If anyone could help it would be very appreciated. I have the settings on the TV set to the air, as mentioned but do not know what else I need to be doing. I know there are alot of local channels in my area, it's NYC. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here is the TV model: samsung lnr408DX/XAA I can't find a manuel online either so if anyone has that it'd also be helpful. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Your TV probably has a coax cable only input, unless it is very old then it will have two different inputs. If it is quite old the coax connector on the back (the threaded connector) must have the center pin inserted. If the TV is recent manufacture however, try carefully inserting a medium sized paper clip (unraveled and straightened) into the center of the coax connector, have someone hold onto the bare paperclip wire (one handed) without them touching the TV. Now, you try to change channels making sure you've set it off - CATV and set it onto "over the air" or "antenna" active. If you get some channels 02 through 13 but not 14 through 84 you may still be on Cable Setting
