How to split a video by openCV?

I have a video camera that is filming a performance, i want to split the output of the video camera to...?

  • to be able to output the video onto a HDTV using an HDMI cable but i also want to output the video onto computer either using Firewire or USB... is that possible? The person i am trying to help went out and bought 2 graphics cards and is now trying to run the output of the camera for the TV through one graphics card and another output through the other graphics card... i am almost certain that will not work because the computer runs off of one graphics card at a time, correct? Is there a way to output the video 2 times, using ANY MEANS NECESSARY! Just let me know

There are SO MANY ways to do this that I don't know where to start.... 1. The camera will (usually) have a firewire output that will simply display everything that the camera sees, using a bit of computer software this can be recorded for live or offline editing. It can be split from the computer monitor output (through a VGA to HDMI adapter if you don't have HDMI screens on the computer) allowing you to display the action live. 2. Camera (professional ones and semi-pro's) will have monitor outputs, depending on the camera involved this could be simply a composite cable, a bnc cable or an hdmi cable straight out. The DV port (firewire) still can be used to feed the data into an edit suite. 3. Without using the firewire, you could just use the monitor output to feed both the screens and then edit suite. I don't understand where you are failing with this. Post the camera model you are using and the edit software (ie FCP, Avid etc). If you are using a bog standard DV camera like a sony DSR and professional edit equipment like Avid then there should really be no problem outside of having to be on a short cable. There is an upper limit to the functional length that you can have USB or DV cables. If you need full movement then you need to be able to broadcast the signal using something like a 'video assist' which is normally for directors to be able to see what the camera sees without having to be cabled to it.
