Homeschooling and fax machines?

Are there fast fax machines and slow fax machines? Or are they all the same speed?

  • I ask because I have to do a lot of faxing during the week and the fax machine we have seems so slow!

  • Answer:

If your fax machine's modem runs @ 9.6Kbps, you can upgrade to 14.4 or 28.8 (more $$$). But even if you have a faster fax machine but the other end (receiver) has a slower one, the comunication will be set to the slower rate.

the speed is down to the phoneline and exchange you are connected to, not the time it takes your machine to scan it, so in the same area, there wont be a lot of difference between machines.

Yes like everything you have faster for more money but the data transfer depends on how good your phone line is??

Older faxes work indeed at a lower speed, but even new ones need some time to scan the document and send it. How old are these faxmachines? And what do you consider slow?? Check the manual for the baudrate. And old fax will work on 9600 bps, a newer one on 14400, and the newest might be even faster, I haven't checked lately (read: the last 5 years)

Scanning speed may be faster locally but it will take exactly the same amount of time to send the information as that's a set speed on the fax comms specification (which is quite old now). Usually fax machines send as they scan, which is why they appear slow; some machines probably have memory to cache the scan data and will send it asynchronous to the scan.

Most machines are the same speeds, unless it's very old, however there are settings you can change that will slow it down, or speed it up, depending on the current settings. Look in the handbook, you can usually scan in fine/ superfine resolutions, possibly more on some machines. It all depends what you are sending and what quality you require.

if you have a fax machine with the speed of 14.4 and the other person has a machine 36.6, your maximum speed will be 14.4. You could buy a faster speed rate fax but it won't do you any good if the other person has a slower rate, it just drops it down.

The speed at which your fax machine receives data depends on your phone line and there's almost nothing you can do about it (except move to cable and see if thats any faster). However the rate that your machine processes and eventually prints your faxes depends on the machine, so newer/more expensive machines will be slightly faster

Shouldn't have bought a cheap fax machine, you RETARD!!!
