How do I burn a movie in avi. format to a DVD?
-
I have just downloaded a movie in avi format that I want to watch on my TV. I have Windows Vista and I am using a program called windows dvd maker, which doesn' seem to be working very well. After the DVD is done burning it is unreadable to all dvd players and my computer as well. Is it possible to burn this movie on a DVD, compatible with standard DVD players, so that my family can enjoy it?

Answer:
Your software is probably making you a DVD-rom with the .avi file on it. This won't play in a DVD player. DVD's must be made with a very specific "flavor" of .mpeg encoding. Your software may do this for you (look for "convert to DVD video" or something like that ) or you may have to get some other software that will convert your .avi (even if IT is an mpeg file) into an mpeg2 encoded .vob file.

I often burn my own DVD with another mini smart DVD Creator tool. It allows me to edit the video freely, such as trimming, cropping, setting effect and customizing DVD Menu. You may have a try.

Here's a simple suggestion.... try to see if you have "roxio" or "NERO" on your pc. Those are more reliable than most of the junk Microsoft puts on PC's. Right click on "My Computer" Select "search" Search your "c" drive for "nero" press "go" If nothing comes up, try the same thing for "Roxio" usually they put those on your PC. Another title to search is "sonic." That's another DVD program Windows uses. If you do not have any of those, quick get one. I recommend Nero, since we use it at work allot.
