Why is it so hard to convert a VHS to DVD perfectly?

How can I convert a VHS to a DVD?

  • Ok, I have a thing that when you put an empty DVD in the DVD player and choose to write a DVD, it records whatever you're watching on TV to the DVD. Now I have some VHS tapes too. Can I plug the VHS player in, play the VHS, and while I'm playing the VHS, also have the DVD writer running? If I can, will it record what's on TV or what I'm watching, which would be the VHS. Please help. I don't want to go and buy a converter, I just want a simple way to do it at home. Thanks soo much!

  • Answer:

it depends...your talking about a dvd recorder...some tapes like dvd's don't have a copywriter/macrovision and the dvd rec. will allow it to record...some have a copyblocker on it and needs to be beaten...my advice...go to radioshack/london drugs/best buy...places like that and look for a video stabilizer..all it is a legal descrambler that is easy to hook up and beats the signal that makes the signal fuzzy or unrecordable and makes it so you CAN record vhs tapes...good luck!!!..hope that helped....

Buy a dvd recorder or take it to a place that specializes in transfering your vhs tapes to a dvd format.

plug them up to tv. let vhs send out put to tv input. then, have tv output go into dvd recorder, not just a player. could do the same on your pc if you add a cheap pci tv card. then it would be easier to do approximately the same thing plus when you store it as a file you can do some editing etc. with the right softward for about $50. that is what i would do. remember a dvd player is not necessarily able to record. they cost more. and they have different capabilities and such. had a phillips dvd recorder and it was too much trouble to keep doing it that way. lotta buttons and stuff to remember. doable but a pain, for me.

you can't sorry. you have to get a professional to do that for you. it won't take days, I promise. they have specialized equipment for those.

Your DVD recorder probably has a button to select the "input". Your VCR has some "output" jacks (Red, White, and Yellow) and your DVD recorder probably has these same input jacks (you'll need a cable if you don't have one). Once you have the two hooked up to each other, you should be able to select the "input" from the VCR. Press play on the VCR and record on the DVD.
