GPS navigation with a smart phone verses the stand alone navigation devices? I'm thinking about purchasing a smart phone with GPS.

Answer:
I would say to stick with a smartphone as a GPS. They have some drawbacks, but as long as its a true smartphone there are some definite advantage. One big advantage is that you will not be stuck with the factory maps on a stand-alone GPS. There are also phones like the Droid that have a windshield mount for the phone to act like a GPS. Well, thats my 2 cents.
