Record streaming video to dvd recorder?

Is it possible to record a DVD onto a video tape, using a DVD player/recorder & VCR?

  • we have a cable box, which we can disconnect, if necessary. both the DVD & VCR players have AV jacks in back & front. we have one AV cable. do we need more than one? one of my neighbors was able to record a DVD onto a video, or so she says, & piracy issues aside, i wonder if this can be done. if this can be done, let me know how.

  • Answer:

never tried this b4 but why you wanna record a DVD into VHS? a single VHS cannot fit the DVD full length movies and i doubt the quality will be the same. anyway, if you wanna try, connect the DVD video out cable (yellow) to the video in of your VCR, do the same for your audio (remember you can only use normal RCA cable and not the component and the digital out from your DVD player) play the DVD and at the same time start the recording from your VCR. let me know of the outcome...I'm curios too :-D

You must first convert the output digital signal to an analog signal by using an RF modulator ($20.00). Connect the composite video cables( red, white, and yellow ) to the composite inputs on the modulator. Then use coaxial cable from the modulator to the coaxial input on the VCR. Set your vcr to channel 3 and record away. Not DVD quality, but it works quite well.
