Can you get sound through VGA cable?

Can't get sound through laptop tv transfer using auxiliary cable and VGA ?

  • Any ideas why. I did my research. I have an emachines netbook and have connected a VGA which is suppose to only connect video without the sound. I have connected an auxiliary, headphone style cord(3.5mm) cord from the laptop headphone jack to the headphone jack in the back of the tv. Get video without sound. Need help. Thanks in advanced.

  • Answer:

You're using a jumper cable to connect the headphone jack on the laptop to the headphone jack on the TV. In other words, you're connecting audio-out to audio-out. That, won't work. You need to connect audio-out to audio-in. Assuming the TV has audio-in connectors, you may need some kind of adapter to get the audio out of the laptop to the TV. If the TV has a video-in connector, it will also have audio-in connectors (left and right channels for stereo sound). You'll need an adapter cable to take the sound from the laptop (3.5mm jack) to RCA plugs. You can find them at Radio Shack for a few dollars.
