My vhs player has finally broken down Im thinking about getting a dvd player. Never had one before. Help?

Ive never had a dvd player before. I think its time I come into 21 century LOL. Whats difference between a £25 from tesco and £60 sony from currys. Is there a big difference in video quality. Can you recommend a nice dvd player Thanks

Answer:
to be honest the difference btween the one from tesco, and the one from currys is the price difference. Their is no difference in the quality of the picture. The more exspensive ones do things like, have a DVD recorder with it but i would buy the cheapest one as in a few years time they will be out dated and you would need to buy something alse to replace it. i hope this helped

dont buy cheap, youll regret it (poor perfomnce, then they go wrong and you end up buing another) , but DVD players arent that expensive. sony are a good brand. like the first guy said, you need a decent TV to watch them on, or its a waste of money

don't worry about bluray or hddvd as neither are worth the extra money and basic dvds will be around for years to come due to their cheap price, a bog standard 20 quid dvd player from asda/tescos and the like will be perfectly good for a while yet. I'm guessing that you are not really that bothered by technology so go for the cheapest option and enjoy, you won't see any dramatic difference between a 20quid dvd player and a 60quid one.
Nommo
Before buying a DVD player check to see what it can play. ie:DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW CD-Roms and also important is the regions it will play. DVD's bought in the UK are region 2, if you plan on buying DVD's from abroad, you will need a multi-player. DVD players are quite cheap now, but go for a make that you know (the place is irrelevant), but somewhere local in case you have to take it back for a replacement or repair.)
Sparky
I assume you have an old tube style low def television too. Since DVD's are already going out of style, get the cheapest dvd player you can. Soon blu-ray and HD-dvd will be the standard and those players cost a fortune.

Wow, you're a little behind. Well, if you've been ok with vhs all this time, I'm assuming small details of video quality don't matter. In that case, all dvd players have generally the same quality. Though players with Up converting function have the best video since its near HD. But cheap ones don't last long. Anything under $50 would probably get some audio or disc error after a few months. Some good manufacturers are sony, panasonic, samsung, etc.

'Nommo' & 'Sparky' are right take their advice! Blu-ray isn't a standard yet & neither is HD, there's a lot has to happen yet!
