What is DVD playback?

What is the most common playback mode used with DVD players?

• I used Dazzle80 to copy some old VHS tapes from family doings,I can view them on my DVD player (Phillips brand) but other people cannot play them on thiers players, I rendered them in MPEJ mode and they play fine on my player , but others cannot view them at all.......they get disc error on thier DVD players, What mode should I use so I can give them to other family members ?

  I am not familiar with Dazzle80, however, it sounds like there could be two different issues here: 1. You have created a VCD or SVCD type DVD? Just a guess. Especially if other DVD players will not recognize the file format. Some DVD players, usually older ones, will not play these. 2. The other issue could be the type of DVD burner you have. DVD+R or DVD-R. Some DVD players will only read one or the other standard, + or -. You burner, depending on how old it is, could burn one or the other standard or both. I would check to see what type of standard your burner is + or - or both, and then check to see if the other peoples DVD players will play + or - or both.
