What format is a DVD?

What format does my movie have to be in to work on my dvd player? my dvd player reads DVD-R/DVD+R?

• i was wondering if anyone would know what format this would work in? i have heard some ppl tell me to put it in VOB format, but i tried tht and it didnt work either?

  get win.avi dvd video converter. the movies do need to be in vob format. you need to set this up in your settings for the converter. if you have them in vob and burned them onto the dvd disc and they won't play.. then it's your dvd player. I had the same problem even with top name brand players. some will play on the ps2 and others won't. I am using an old cheap dvd player now that plays most of my movies but there are still some that it won't. you may need to just watch them on your comp. edit: I don't know about x-box.. but ps2 tends to be a bit fussy about the burned discs. it's pretty much just a hit n miss type of thing in the sense that .. sometimes the movie will play on the ps2 and sometimes it won't.. it says it can't read the disc. stick with the VOB format though. I used to use nero.. but I found it useless and complicated as well as annoying that it would put chapters on the dvd. Then I found win avi and I haven't had any trouble burning since. does your comp have an actual dvd burner? if not then you need to go and buy one. I use an external one for now that I bought for about 80 AUS $.
