Why won't my speaker work?

Why wont the extention speaker jack on my guitar amp work? Isnt it simply patched to another speaker?

• I Just bought an Epiphone Acoustic Regent 230 acoustic guitar amp.I have owned several guitar and bass amps before but never one with a "speaker out" jack. The jack is a basic 1/4" instrument jack with 8 ohms printed below it. Shouldnt I just be able to patch the amp to another speaker with a 1/4" instrument/speaker cable as long as the extra speaker is also rated at 8 ohms? Ive heard and read that this is hows its done. It was also my understanding that when the extra speaker is hooked up that it doesnt cancel the internal amp spreaker , but that they work togather. I suppose that its possible that there is somthing wrong with the amp and its just not working, but as I said I have never used an amp with this feature and I could be doing something wrong. I have no manual , but the amp was bought from a reputable dealer. I thought I would try getting advice from ppl with no concern in the matter before retuning it.

  It should work, could be possible that during assembly they failed to connect the jack to the circuit board. I have seen that before. Or a wire come loose. Also check all of your wiring and double check your extension cable. Make sure your speaker wires are connected at their terimnals at the speaker. After double checking everything, and it still doesn't work, then I would consult with the dealer, or a repair shop. Forgot to add, on the back of the amp, look for any type of switch that will turn on the external speaker. Some switches are in the strangest places.
