Need help connecting dvd player to tv?
-
I have an old magnavox tv, with no a/v cable hookups. all it has is one coaxle hookup for the cable. connected to that is my comcast digital cable box. my comcast box has the a/v hookups in the back, so i plugged my dvd cables into the corresponding colors. i have no idea how to jump to the dvd screen. i tried hitting dvd and aux on the remote but no luck. is there a splitter or something i could get to make the connection work? once again, its comcast cable box directly to my tv and the a/v cables are hooked up from the dvd player directly to the comcast digital cable box. there is no direct connection from dvd player to the tv.

Answer:
You could call Comcast and ask them... Check to make sure you plugged into the Comcast A/V "IN" ports, so that you are sending the signal to the Comcast box (and then to the TV). Check your channels. You may need to go to Channel 3 or 4. Also make sure the DVD player is plugged in and turned on...

You could buy an RF modulator and connect it between the dvd and TV using a co-ax Y splitter. Maybe its time for a new TV?

Eviliser is right - you need a RF modulator. It will convert the video and audio output from your DVD to a channel 3 or 4 signal. You may have to buy an RF switch also so you can switch between the DVD or cable. This is an easy hookup. Radio shack and Walmart etc have modulators: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103095&cp=&sr=1&origkw=modulator&kw=modulator&parentPage=search The yellow-red-white connections on your cable box may be outputs not inputs. They should be labeled. They need to be inputs to work with your DVD.

If you have an old VCR the same vintage as your TV then you are in luck. Run the VCR RF out to the TV set. Run the cable box RF out the the VCR. Run the DVD A/V cables to the VCR. Set the record input of the VCR to A/V. Now when you want to watch DVD, put the VCR into record mode. The VCR will upconvert the AV inputs to channel 3 so you can watch on the TV.

You should be able to go to the nearest electronics store or Walmart and get a special splitter. I can't remember name of it or exactly what it looks like.
