How do you hear GPS directions if it has an mp3 player?

How can you do this with a Garmin GPS?

  • Hello, the GPS I am looking at is a Garmin Nuvi and it has a built in MP3 player with bluetooth phone function. It says you can play music through your car speakers and hear when you are on the phone through them. How does this work? What do you need? Thanks!

  • Answer:

I don't have a Garmin Nuvi, I have a TOmTOm but I am sure it works the same way. The GPS have a small low power FM transmitter built into it that will transfer the audio from either the built in MP3 player, GPS audio directions or Phone. The cell phone will need to connect via BlueTooth. You can hear the cell phone through the GPS's speaker or have it transmitted to your FM radio. (another car could also pick up the transmission if it was dialed into the same frequency and with about 6 feet of your car.
