  Good luck figuring it out. Maybe if someone reviewed answering machines... the problem is that they became commodity hardware a long time ago. There are no review sites. Even if there were, it's unlikely that they would be able to determine the type of compression in use. Perhaps by opening it and examining each IC, you could look up the function of each one and go from there... but why? :) These machines are in the $20 range now, so nobody cares.
