How To Buy Road Rash?

Would you buy this house, if it was next to a road?

  • We are interested in a gorgeous house in an excellent location, with the right price range for us. We like everything about it, except that it is the first house as you turn into the subdivision, which means it is next to the road. The road is a 2 lane road and is not near a highway. The little noise from the road, and the lack of privacy on the deck doesn't bother us (the yard has a fence blocking it from the road), but we want to be able to sell the house in 2-5 years. I am sure someone will definitely buy it, but it might take a long time and we won't sell it for a profit. What do you all think?

  • Answer:

If the house was appealing to you, other people will like it too. If this were a major road it might be different. Check with the planning commission and see what the long range plans are for that area.

Second time you asked this question lol you must be looking for encouragement. My mom has her house almost identical to what you described in the western suburbs of Chicago and she loves it and it has done nothing but appreciate in value over the past 10 years. Remember they are making babies all the time but they are not making any more land that's finite so if you like what you see someone else will too. Never marry a property it's really hard to get a divorce. Buena Suerte

i agree that you should check with the township/county/city to determine what plans they have for adjacent property, particularly airports or major highways. it doesn't seem to be coming up, as per your description. i think it fits your bill, so buy it, because: the one thing that grabbed me about your description is that is sounds as though this house is at least on a corner lot. so if it gets sun on two sides, not one, that's fantastic! and it's even better if your house faces both east and west for morning and afternoon sun. the more light, the more people like the house. good sunlight is going to afford you ample opportunity to keep up your landscaping, which is ALWAYS a major selling point. just don't over improve for the neighborhood: keep it pretty, but not TOO overdone! how far are you from the neighbors? if far, that's another advantage. make sure the builder is not going to build another house RIGHT NEXT DOOR to you without any air space or any bricks to clutter your view. buena suerte! (good luck!)
