What does it mean when a condo has been "winterized'?

  • i went to look at a condo for sale in my area and signs over the house said "warning, this dwelling has been winterized" what the heck does that mean? thanks

    Things have been done to protect the condo from damage that could be done by winter conditions. In my area they often pour a special household plumbing version of anti freeze in all the plumbing drains - this would include the dishwasher and the clothes washer drain. they also drain the water heater. In a single family home they may also do things to a sprinkler system. This may make it hard to do an inspection unless you pay to have it "de winterized" and then "re winterize it" afterwards. The only other concern I see is that you can not run any water or use the commode until that stuff is undone.

When my home was done they put chaulking in all wall seams and around all windows put a blanket on hot water set it for 120` and few other things to protect agianst cold
