Answer:
Have a look at the DWP (Department of Work & Pensions) website under Benefits. Depending on your income, if you are on a low income and don't have much savings you might be able to get housing benefit and council tax benefit. I hope your (soon to be ex) husband is paying you out what you are entitled to. A solicitor could advise you about this. Best of luck.

Be careful with this. Please see an adviser at CAB, reason is that if your house is sold you would have money to pay for rent, depending on the amount you get from the sale, this is how Housing benefit see it. However if you have unsecure loans and debts and use the sale of the house money to pay them off. housing benefit would say that your priority is paying rent, not your non priority debtsand might not give you anything. If you do go CAB get them to do a benefit check for you.

if you have a certain amount of money in savings, (my local council is £6000) you may not be entitled to any housing benefit. it really does depend on the amount of cash you have, as if you have too much you are able to afford to pay your own rent. if you have no savings, you will be entitled to housing benefit if your wages are low. It doesn't really matter how many hours you work, it is the money which you get. try you local council website or entitledto.com for a list of benefits you will be able to claim.
